Anesthesiology Residency program (Medicine)

How have you used Clinical Mind AI in your teaching or research?

At Stanford University, in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine, a team of clinical educators used Clinical Mind AI to create an AI simulation experience for first year anesthesiology residents. As part of their educational day, our team wanted to teach about topics related to communication and non-technical skills. The platform brought a realistic, interactive patient experience to life, in which residents were able to practice using evidence based techniques to engage in a difficult conversation with a patient who tragically, suffered from intraoperative awareness. Traditionally, this kind of simulation experience would be very difficult to conduct given the need for standardized patients and intensive resources. During a one hour session, residents engaged in a realistic, difficult conversation, received AI feedback based on their individual performance via a rubric, and reviewed medical knowledge on a high yield topic. The platform also facilitated a collaborative, peer group educational activity in which residents discussed intraoperative awareness.

What impact or benefits have you observed for your students or teaching practice?

We have received very positive feedback from our residents who used Clinical Mind AI and they are looking forward to future sessions. In particular, residents enjoyed the interactive aspects of the simulation experience, the individual feedback, and the ability to engage in peer teaching.

Anything else you’d like to share about your experience?

There is no lack of extraordinary use cases for Clinical Mind AI and we are excited to explore this platform's ability to provide highly immersive and engaging learning experiences for our residents!
